2022 Soil and Water Conservation Society Conference
Members of the Lewis Lab were lucky to attend, compete, and present at the 77th Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) International Annual Conference. The conference theme this year, “Elevating Conservation to New Heights”, was appropriate as SWCS members presented their research in Denver, CO. Visit the 2022 SWCS annual conference webpage here.
Ph.D. students, Christopher Cobos and Lauren Selph, presented their research at the SWCS graduate student poster competition. Chris’ poster on soil water dynamics in cotton conservation agroecosystems placed first in the competition while Lauren’s poster on soil health parameters during the transitionary period from conventional to organic production won second place!
M.S. student, Hector Valencia, had the opportunity to discuss double-cropping production systems and their effects on nutrient cycling and soil health parameters at the graduate student poster competition.
Lauren, Hector, and Dr. Burke got to enjoy a trip to the Denver Botanical Garden in downtown Denver.
Congratulations to Dr. Paul “Bart” DeLaune for receiving the 2022 SWCS Conservation Research Award. Dr. DeLaune is a regular collaborator with the Lewis Lab and we are proud to work alongside him. His research is located at the Vernon Research and Extension Center in the Texas Rolling Plains where he focuses on environmental soil science. For more information on his research lab, visit the Vernon Research and Extension site here.
